Carol McArdle was
born to an English Mother and Jamaican/Oriental Father in Montego Bay,
Jamaica. She spent most of her childhood with her Mother and
Grandparents in Bristol, England. Carol had two children in Ireland
where she lived for ten years until, in 1992 ,she realized part of a
dream of hers when she, with her family, moved to America. The rest of
that dream was fulfilled when in 2001 she became an American citizen.
From early childhood Carol loved drawing and painting, and by the age
of ten she recognized her gift and knew she was born to be an artist.
Although prevented by her Father from taking art at high school, Carol
was blessed with an art teacher who gave her time freely and held
portrait classes after school hours. Mostly on the strength of these
portraits Carol was accepted into West Surrey College of Art and Design,
in Farnham, England. Carol’s art career has been wide and varied as she
has made a living and raised her two girls. Some of the places her art
has appeared are, as illustrations in magazines and other publications,
as part of a movie set in Far and Away starring, Tom Cruise, and for
the last eight years, in many of the prestigious homes of SW Florida,
where she has lived since 1995. In spite of much success, by the late
nineties Carol’s love of her art was waning and she realized she needed
to rediscover what it was, inside her from childhood, which was
yearning to be expressed. To her joy in 1999, as she took regular
personal time to experiment, she discovered her love and talent in the
expressiveness and possibilities of abstract painting.
Carol kept her abstract paintings for her own pleasure and enjoyment
for the first three years as she developed her strength and confidence
in them. By 2002 she was ready to begin sharing her creations with the
world. She began with her paintings showing in Art, Artifact and
Antiquity gallery in Naples, Florida and is now starting to expand her
plans to show and sell her paintings. Carol paints mostly with acrylic
on canvas or board, using her talent and skill with colors to explore
the infinite ways to show off their innate beauty. Her paintings have a
refreshing originality ,expressed with fluidity, vibrant energy and
gracefulness.
